Dr. Medellín completed a prestigious three-month fellowship program at the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna, Italy — a leading center for musculoskeletal cancer treatment and biological reconstruction, ranked among the top ten orthopaedic hospitals in the world.
He subsequently completed a one-year clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, United Kingdom — an institution with over 200 years of history, renowned for its advanced pelvic oncologic surgery, endoprosthetic reconstruction, and computer-assisted orthopaedic surgery.
In addition, Dr. Medellín further refined his expertise at the National Cancer Institute of Bogotá, Colombia, one of the foremost cancer treatment centers in Latin America, where he completed his Second Specialty in Orthopaedic Oncology and obtained his certification from the Universidad Militar Nueva Granada.
Professional Background in Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Medellín has over 15 years of experience as a specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, having practiced at several renowned institutions in Bogotá, Colombia.
He currently serves as an Orthopaedic Oncologist in the Sarcoma Unit at the Fundación Centro de Tratamiento e Investigación sobre el Cáncer (CTIC) – Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo, where he specializes in the management of musculoskeletal tumors, bone metastatic disease, and oncologic reconstructive surgery.
He is also affiliated with the Clínica del Country as an Orthopaedic Oncologist, providing comprehensive care for both outpatients and inpatients with musculoskeletal tumor conditions.
In addition, Dr. Medellín is part of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department at the Fundación Clínica Shaio, where his practice focuses on the management of moderate to high-complexity trauma, pathological fractures in older adults, and ostearticular reconstructive surgery. He also serves as a faculty member in the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Residency Program at Universidad El Bosque.
